Gangwando

It was off to Gangwando, Koreas most north-eastern province last weekend with the Lee family, and it started with a long 5 and 1/2 hour car trip on Fri night. We arrived at the coast at 4 in the morning and we enjoyed a half hours sleep in the car before we took a boat trip to see the sunrise and feed the seagulls. The latter being quite a novelty for many Koreans. The sunrise wasn't that impressive but the salt air was worth the early wake up.

We stayed in some lovely cabins admist tall pine trees and enjoyed the brisk mountain air. The sand clouds from China that we've been getting in Gwangju didn't seem as bad near the coast. We went for a walk in the woods to a spot where there's a mineral water spring. The water tasted fizzy and like it had baking soda in it. You can see Mr Lee laughing at Maria just after she took the first sip.

We visited Woljong Temple as they were preparing for Buddhas birthday next friday, the lanterns were beautiful in the sunshine.
On sunday we went to a beach where there were horse and carriage rides avaliable. Only in Korea...
The beach was the most like the ones at home that we've seen here, there were actually waves.
Then it was a 6 and 1/2 hour trip back to Gwangju.
