Maehwa Village

On Saturday we visited Maehwa with the Lee family. The village is covered in plum trees that have just started blooming for spring.

We had a great day wandering around all the orchards. Not all the blossoms were out, I think owing to the snow we had last week this spring is a little later than usual.

At the top of a hill we could look down over the village and see all the trees, it was really beautiful. They make a brandy-like drink from the plums and its kept in huge ceramic pots much like the Kim Chi pots.

Maybe the 500th game of "Gywe-bywe-bo" (rock, paper, scissors) that Maria and In Jong played during the day.

It's such a popular game here, you see kids everywhere playing it. It's also the standard way to reslove any disputes. In class if kids are fighting over chairs they are more than happy to play and accept their fate as determined by"Gywe-bywe-bo" and you won't hear one word of complaint afterwards, its seen as the fairest way to do things. We've seen adults use it aswell.

Mr Lee and Mark wandering around all the trees.

In Jong had fun posing for Mark during the day.

Some more shots...
